Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 Cover Display Will Feature Optimized Google Apps: Report

Samsung's next-gen foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5, are expected to debut on July 27. The Z Flip 5 will feature a large cover display with an eccentric folder-like design.

According to the latest report, the smartphone will also get optimized Google apps. This means that apps like YouTube, Messages, and Google Maps will be accessible without having to unfold the smartphone.

According to a SamMobile report, Samsung has partnered with Google to optimize Google's apps for the Galaxy Z Flip 5's cover display. This will likely make it easier to watch videos on YouTube, view directions on Google Maps, send text messages, and perform various other tasks on the smartphone right from the cover display.

Although the Galaxy Z Flip 5's cover panel still won't be able to display the Android OS' home screen in its full glory, nor will it accommodate the app drawer, the latest development will vastly improve the usability of the foldable's cover display with optimized apps.

That's not all, previous reports suggest that the Samsung Keyboard has also been optimized for the Galaxy Z Flip 5's cover display. This will allow users to text and use the voice-to-text feature without having to unfold the smartphone.

Galaxy Z Flip 5 Rumored Features

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 will reportedly feature a massive 3.4-inch cover display, which is a drastic change from its predecessor's 1.9-inch cover panel. Meanwhile, the phone's inner display could measure 6.7 inches.

The Z Flip 5 is expected to sport an AMOLED display which will have a refresh rate of 120Hz and a full HD+ resolution. At the top, there will be a punch-hole cutout to accommodate the selfie camera.

Powering the smartphone will be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, which could be accompanied by up to 8GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. When it comes to the operating system, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 could run Android 13-based One UI 5.1.1 out of the box.
