Samsung Reportedly Testing One UI 9 for Galaxy S26 Series Ahead of Android 17 Rollout: Check Release Timeline

Samsung just launched the Galaxy S26 lineup with One UI 8.5, but it looks like the company isn’t wasting any time moving to the next update.

Samsung Reportedly Testing One UI 9 for Galaxy S26 Series

Early signs of One UI 9 have already surfaced for the Galaxy S26 series, suggesting that development of Samsung’s next Android version is underway sooner than expected.

Early Build Shows Up on Samsung Servers

A post by tipster Tarun Vats on X points to an internal One UI 9 test build being spotted on Samsung’s servers. The build carries version numbers S948BXXU1BZC5, S948BOXM1BZC5, and S948BXXU1BZC5.

That alone doesn’t tell us much about features, but it does confirm that Samsung has moved into the testing phase for its next major software update.

Interestingly, SamMobile says it managed to download one of these builds and take a closer look. From what’s been shared so far, the changes seem minor. One noticeable tweak is slightly larger controls in certain quick settings options, which could make the interface easier to use.

Android 17 Timeline Starts Taking Shape

One UI 9 will be based on Android 17, and while Samsung hasn’t officially shared a roadmap yet, the timeline is starting to take shape based on these early developments.

The beta program could go live around late May or early June. If that happens, the stable version may follow in September, which lines up with Samsung’s usual update cycle.

Foldables May Be First to Get It

Samsung’s upcoming foldables could be the first devices to ship with One UI 9 out of the box. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 are expected later this year, and they could debut with the new software.

There’s also talk of a wider foldable device in development, though details are still limited at this point.

One UI 8.5 Rollout Still Hasn’t Fully Begun

What makes this interesting is that One UI 8.5 is still in the early stages of its rollout.

The update first arrived with the Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra, bringing a mix of AI features, design changes, and updates to privacy and security. Samsung has also added tweaks like improved Photo Assist tools, Now Nudge features, and more customization options in the Quick Panel.

The stable rollout to older devices is expected to begin later this month, starting with the Galaxy S25 series. A broader rollout could follow from April. Check out the list of eligible devices here.
