Samsung Selling Million Galaxy Fold Units Isn’t A True Story
There has been a goof-up about Samsung selling a million Galaxy Fold smartphones. It looks like the company wants to sell a million units of its first folding smartphones and hasn't reached that milestone yet. It all started from the TechCrunch Disrupt Belin conference, where Samsung Electronics' President Sohn Young-Kwon said the company has sold a million Galaxy Fold smartphones.
On ground reality, Sohn Young-Kwon said that the company wants to sell a million pieces of the Galaxy Fold and there are a million people that want to use the foldable phone by paying $2,000.
While launching the product, Samsung estimated that it would sell around 400,000 to 500,000 Galaxy Fold units within 2019. As of now, the company hasn't disclosed the number of units it has already sold. For the unknown, the Galaxy Fold is the first foldable smartphone from the company with a dual-screen design. This is also the only foldable smartphone available in India, making it a one-of-a-kind device.
The smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC with 12GB RAM and 512GB internal storage. Even the Indian iteration is also based on the same chipset, which is quite unusual for a flagship smartphone from Samsung.
The device was originally planned to launch a few months earlier than the actual launch. However, there was some issue with the folding display, where most of the reviewers damaged their phones within a few days.
Samsung then, went back to the drawing board to make necessary changes to make it less fragile. The company then launched an upgrade version of the same, which still isn't as robust as a standard smartphone due to the folding mechanism. The smartphone retails for Rs. 1,64,999 in India, making it one of the most expensive smartphones that Samsung has ever launched in the country.
