Samsung Unveils Exclusive Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition for Paris 2024 Athletes

Samsung has introduced a special edition of its Galaxy Z Flip6, designed specifically for athletes participating in the Paris 2024 Olympics and Paralympics. This exclusive version, announced during an event in France, celebrates the company's long-standing partnership with the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The phone's internal hardware is identical to the standard Galaxy Z Flip6, but it features a unique yellow finish, additional pre-loaded apps, and a commemorative flipsuit case.

Continuing a Tradition of Custom Phones for Athletes

Samsung's tradition of gifting customized smartphones to Olympic athletes began with the Rio 2016 Games. The Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition continues this legacy, but with a significant twist: athletes will receive their phones before the official market launch.

Stephanie Choi, Executive Vice President and Head of Marketing of Samsung's Mobile eXperience Business, highlighted the phone's role in the Games, saying it will help athletes "create meaningful connections and capture lifelong memories."

Features Tailored for the Olympic Experience

The Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition comes equipped with several features aimed at making athletes' time in Paris more enjoyable and convenient:

• eSIM with 100GB 5G Data: Provided by Orange, this feature ensures athletes have seamless connectivity throughout the Games.
• Pre-loaded Essential Apps: These include the official Paris 2024 app, the Athlete 365 platform (a dedicated social network for athletes), and the Transport Accred app for easy navigation.
• Samsung Wallet Perks: The wallet comes with a pre-loaded pass for complimentary beverages at vending machines in the Olympic and Paralympic village, as well as a public transport access card, courtesy of partnerships with Coca-Cola and IDFM, Paris' public transport operator.

Potential Public Availability

While the Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition will initially be exclusive to athletes, Samsung has hinted at a possible wider release. This approach follows the company's pattern from previous Olympics, where similar custom phones were later made available commercially. For instance, the Galaxy Z Flip3 for Beijing 2022 and the Galaxy S21 for Tokyo 2020 eventually saw broader releases, albeit without the athlete-specific perks.

For now, the Olympic Edition will be showcased at various locations throughout Paris, providing the public with a glimpse of this unique collaboration. Notably, the opening ceremony parade along the Seine River will be broadcasted using Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones connected to a dedicated 5G network, further highlighting Samsung's technological contributions to the Games.
