Sharp Aquos S2 variant with dual cameras, 128GB ROM spotted online

Earlier this month, Japanese manufacturer Sharp launched the Sharp Aquos S2. It is the 29th full-screen smartphone from Sharp, and the first full-screen smartphone from the company to be launched outside of their home country.

As the Sharp Aquos S2 has met with great response, the company seems to have decided to launch a new variant of the same smartphone. We say this because a smartphone codenamed as Sharp FS8008 has appeared on the Chinese regulatory authority TENAA. Interestingly, the handset not only sports a similar design, its specs also match with the Sharp Aquos S2.

That being said, the Sharp FS8008 has a major difference with the Aquos S2 though. As seen from images, the former doesn't come with a bezel-less display. Unlike most of the Sharp phones, this one has rather thick upper and lower bezels. Furthermore, instead of sporting a metal unibody, the upcoming Sharp phone appears to be made of plastic.

Talking about the similarities, the smartphone also features a vertically arranged dual camera setup at the top-left corner of its rear panel. The Sharp logo can be seen both on the backside of the handset and below the display at up front. There is also a physical Home button under the display, which is likely to double function as the fingerprint scanner.

The right edge of the Sharp FS8008 holds the Power button and the volume rockers. The TENAA listing suggests the phone will be available in only White color. Well, this is quite unlikely for the Japanese company to launch only one color variant of its smartphones.

Coming to the specifications, the Sharp FS8008 is shown to be featuring a 5.5-inch display with the resolution of 2,040×1,080 pixels. Under its hood, the phone is powered by an Octa-core processor running at 2.2GHz. While the name of the chipset is not specified, it is likely to be either the Snapdragon 630 or Snapdragon 660 SoC.

There might be two storage variants of the Sharp FS8008. The basic one with 64GB of native storage and 4GB RAM. While the higher variant will feature 128GB of internal storage clubbed with 6GB of RAM. The storage capacity can be further expanded thanks to the microSD card slot.

The rear dual camera setup on the phone is comprised of two 12MP sensors. Likewise, there is an 8MP selfie camera present at the front. The Sharp FS8008 arrives pre-installed with Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS and is backed up by an unusually small 2,390mAh battery unit.

The handset 141.8×72.04×7.9mm and it weighs 145grams.

While we have heard no word, the TENAA appearance hints towards an imminent launch for the smartphone.
