Sharp Aquos S2 came with a notch at the top of the display making it similar to the to the Essential PH-1 smartphone. As Foxconn owns Sharp and a stake in Essential, Andy Rubin came up with a statement expressing his disappointment with the design of the Sharp smartphone. Apparently, it looks like the company has ditched the design of the PH-1 and adopted that of the Apple iPhone X for its upcoming smartphone - the Aquos S3.
The live images of the yet to be announced smartphone have surfaced online making us believe that the company is prepping the successor to the Aquos S2 that is over six months old now. The live images of the Sharp Aquos S3 have been posted by a Weibo user via Slashleaks. These live photos are in line with the previously leaked photos of the smartphone.
It is clear that the smartphone appears to have a notch at its top with the camera positioned at the left and the earpiece grille at the middle. There appears to be a sensor as well but it is not too visible. Last year, the company appeared to have a fingerprint sensor embedded into the home button but now it seems to be moved to the rear panel.
The alleged Sharp Aquos S3 live images show that the smartphone might be launched with vertically positioned dual cameras at its rear. Also, there appears to be a secondary mic above the camera module and a LED flash below it. The rear of the Sharp smartphone seems to be made of glass but there is a possibility for it to be a NCVM coating as seen on the 360 N6 Pro. However, it does not have the brushed metal look as seen on its predecessor. It will be a fingerprint magnet though.
Going by the previous reports, the Sharp Aquos S3 was to be unveiled on January 16 but the same did not happen for unknown reasons. The company is yet to come up with an explanation regarding the same. Also, there is no word on when else we can expect this smartphone to be announced. When it comes to the rumored specifications, the Sharp Aquos S3 is likely to sport a 5.99-inch FHD+ display and make use of a Snapdragon 660 processor paired with 6GB RAM, 128GB storage space and a 3100mAh battery.
