iPhone 17 Air Battery Capacity Leaks, and It's Worrying—Here’s What We Know So Far

Apple's upcoming iPhone 17 Air is shaping up to be the brand's thinnest phone yet. At just 5.5mm thick, it's slimmer than any iPhone ever released and even undercuts the recently launched Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, which measures 5.8mm. The leaks don't stop there-the iPhone 17 Air is also expected to be incredibly lightweight at just 145 grams.

But with such a thin profile comes a trade-off, and it's one that looks embarrassing: the battery capacity.

iPhone 17 Air Battery Capacity Leaks, and It's Worrying

The Slimmer, The Smaller

According to a leak from the supply chain, the iPhone 17 Air is set to house a 2,800mAh battery. In 2025, that number feels oddly nostalgic-like something out of 2017. For comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge packs a 3,900mAh cell, and even the standard iPhone 16 comes with around 20% more juice.

There are whispers that Apple might be integrating high-density battery tech to make that 2,800mAh stretch a little further. Some reports suggest it could add 15-20% more efficiency, but that still doesn't quite measure up to its direct competitors.

And then there's the interesting bit: Apple's rumored AI-based battery optimization. According to a Bloomberg report, the company is developing a feature for iOS that would dynamically adjust power settings based on user habits.

It's supposed to analyze how you use your phone-whether you're doom-scrolling Twitter, streaming Netflix, or crushing deadlines on Slack-and manage power accordingly. It sounds promising, but until we see it in action, it's hard to say if it'll be enough to make up for that smaller battery.

Specs at a Glance

Here's what we know about the iPhone 17 Air so far:

  • Display: 6.6-inch ProMotion display, 120Hz refresh rate
  • Processor: Apple A19 chip
  • Modem: Apple C1 in-house modem
  • Rear Camera: Single 48MP sensor
  • Front Camera: 24MP sensor
  • Battery: 2,800mAh
  • Thickness: 5.5mm
  • Weight: 145g

Is the iPhone 17 Air Setting a New Trend?

With the iPhone 17 Air, Apple seems to be carving out a new niche-an ultra-thin, lightweight phone for those who prioritize design over raw endurance. It's reminiscent of the days of the iPod Touch, when pocketability and sleekness were king.

But in a world where most of us are glued to our screens for hours on end, will the trade-off be worth it? That's the big question.
