There’s Some Good News and Some Bad News Regarding the USB-C Cables for the iPhone 15 Series
With the upcoming iPhone 15 series, Apple is embracing the industry trend by making the switch to USB-C ports. However, recent leaks by reliable source Majun Bu indicate that the standard iPhone 15 models won't experience a boost in data transfer speeds despite the USB-C adoption. The USB-C cables packaged with the iPhone 15 will support USB 2.0 speeds, maxing out at 480 Mbps-similar to the trusty Lightning cables we've grown accustomed to.
The Length and Build of the New Cables
The iPhone 15 will come with longer, 1.6-meter cables that are more convenient for charging. Additionally, every iPhone 15 will include a sturdier, braided USB-C charging cable that may match the new iPhone colors for a seamless visual appearance. However, these cables will not be MFI certified.

The Implications of No MFI Certification
You might be surprised that these cables don't have MFI certification. But this change actually has a big advantage.
Unlike Lightning cables that only work with Apple-licensed accessories, these USB-C cables allow third-party options to flourish. This gives users more choices and possibilities.
The Prospects of iPhone 15 Pro Variants
On the other side, rumors suggest that the iPhone 15 Pro models will get a high-speed port upgrade. Speculation points to the inclusion of USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (20Gbps) or even Thunderbolt 3 (40Gbps). This upgrade would significantly increase data transfer speeds, making it easier to transfer large files and connect to external devices.
Enhanced Charging and Battery Power
Those looking to purchase the Pro models can also look forward to enhanced charging capabilities. Leaks indicate potential support for up to 35W charging, coupled with larger batteries than the previous generation.
Potential Delay in iPhone 15 Pro Max Delivery
Regarding the Pro models, particularly the iPhone 15 Pro Max, there's a concern about a possible supply disruption that could lead to a delay in its delivery.
Initially, Apple had planned to announce the iPhone 15 series on September 13, with pre-orders starting on September 15 and deliveries beginning a week after. However, due to an estimated shortage of Sony's camera sensors causing a delay of around three to four weeks, the expected delivery timeframe for the Pro Max version has been adjusted to fall between October 6 and October 13.
