Vivo Shares New X Fold5 Images and Video Teaser, Highlights Thinner Body and Desktop-Style Multitasking

Vivo is preparing to launch its next-gen foldable, the X Fold5, in China on June 25, with a global launch rumored for July 10. The company has already begun teasing the device on Weibo, releasing more official product images and even a hands-on video making the rounds in Chinese tech circles.

Here’s a closer look at what vivo is promising with the X Fold5.

Breaking Its Own Records for Weight and Size

One of the standout talking points is the device's weight. Last year’s X Fold3 still holds the title of the lightest book-style foldable at 219 grams. According to vivo, the X Fold5 will be even lighter, pushing closer to traditional slab-style phone weights. For a foldable, that’s a significant benchmark, especially when users still associate these devices with bulk.

vivo is also claiming the X Fold5 will be thinner than its predecessor, although official measurements haven’t been disclosed yet. The design clearly aims to reduce the friction of carrying a foldable daily.

A 6,000mAh Battery in a Thinner Body

Perhaps more interesting than weight is the battery capacity. The X Fold5 is expected to come with a 6,000mAh battery, which would make it the largest battery in any foldable device to date. This battery includes 12% silicon content, allowing for more energy storage without a proportional increase in volume.

The battery is also reportedly functional at temperatures as low as -30°C, while the hinge system has been tested to operate at -20°C.

Desktop-Like Multitasking With “Atomic Workbench”

vivo is also introducing a multitasking feature called Atomic Workbench, which is designed to give users a desktop-like experience on the foldable’s inner display. This aligns with a broader push across Android OEMs to make large foldables more than just oversized phones—essentially turning them into part-time tablets or productivity machines.

Atomic Workbench hasn’t been demonstrated in detail yet, but vivo suggests it will support improved task switching and window management. Expect more details at the launch event.

Aiming at iPhone Users With Cross-Ecosystem Integration

Perhaps the most surprising part of vivo’s pitch is the explicit targeting of iPhone users. According to a company executive, the X Fold5 will be the first Android phone to seamlessly integrate into the Apple ecosystem.

While it’s unclear exactly how this integration works, the claim is that the device can be used side-by-side with an iPhone, or even serve as a full replacement—without forcing users to abandon Apple services and workflows.
