Vivo OriginOS 7 Based on Android 17 Launching on September 16: Major Design Changes Teased

Vivo has officially confirmed the launch date for OriginOS 7, its next-generation Android 17-based smartphone operating system. The new software will be unveiled in China on September 16 during the Vivo Developer Conference, where the company is expected to reveal its rollout plans and showcase the biggest new features.

Alongside OriginOS 7, Vivo will also introduce BlueOS 4, the company's software platform for smartwatches, IoT products and smart home devices.

OriginOS 7 Design Changes

Vivo has been teasing several visual changes coming with OriginOS 7. The biggest focus appears to be a new translucent interface based on what the company calls "light and shadow aesthetics."

The design uses glass-like translucent elements that allow background wallpapers to blend through the interface. Vivo says the approach is designed to create a more immersive experience while giving applications more usable screen space.

Another highlight is Vivo's "see-through colour" technology, which dynamically adjusts specific areas of the interface to keep text readable against changing or complex backgrounds.

Faster Animations and New Effects

OriginOS 7 will also introduce a redesigned animation system. Vivo says its Blue River rendering engine has been rebuilt around Virtual GPU 4.0, allowing the system to render content 14% faster than OriginOS 6.

The interface will feature interactive lighting and ripple effects. For example, pressing a button can trigger a ripple animation, while dragging across the display changes light and shadow along the movement path.

The lock screen is also getting new customisation options. Liquid Themes can animate wallpapers based on how the device is tilted or moved, while Flash Card Theme can transform photos, characters and locations into lock-screen cards.

OriginOS 7 Gets New Sticker Features

Vivo is also adding a system-wide sticker library to OriginOS 7. Users will reportedly be able to place stickers across the desktop, albums, wallpapers and Always-On Display.

The system will also allow users to create custom stickers directly from photos, adding another layer of personalisation.
More details about OriginOS 7 features, eligible Vivo and iQOO devices, and the rollout timeline are expected when Vivo officially unveils the software on September 16.
