Vivo Unveils Origin OS 4 Based on Android 14
Vivo, a Chinese smartphone manufacturer, recently unveiled OriginOS 4 at a developer conference in China. This operating system upgrade, which is powered by Android 14, follows the release of Funtouch OS 14 in India last month for both Vivo and iQOO devices.
Performance and Improvements
OriginOS 4 introduces a standout feature in the form of a virtual graphics card function. This innovation significantly reduces app loading and closing times, resulting in an impressive 36% improvement in application response speed. Users can also anticipate a 70% boost in display frame rate stability, leading to smoother and faster app interactions, and enhancing the overall user experience.

But OriginOS 4 doesn't stop at faster app performance. It introduces ray tracing, frame insertion, and super-resolution technologies, elevating the quality of graphics on your device. These additions make visuals more realistic, from skin textures to reflections, providing a more immersive experience.
To further enhance system efficiency, OriginOS 4 undergoes lightweight reconstruction, reducing background processes by 20%. This reduction translates to lower power consumption, extending your device's standby time by an impressive 15%. With OriginOS 4, users can enjoy up to 14 days of standby use without needing to recharge.
In addition, OriginOS 4 dedicates a separate computing space to music playback to ensure that enjoying your favorite tunes doesn't drain the main system's resources. This means uninterrupted music playback for up to 105 hours.
Optimized Scheduling and Memory Efficiency
Unfair Scheduling 2.0 is a critical addition to OriginOS 4, efficiently managing CPU power and resources. This enhancement results in more agile and responsive phone performance, particularly when dealing with complex scenarios. Memory Efficiency is also prioritized with Memory Fusion 4.0, optimizing memory usage for improved app startup and background operation.
Visual Enhancements
OriginOS 4 brings visual improvements, including the redesign of over 2,000 icons to enhance visual comfort. The update introduces a custom Vivo Sans font throughout the system, along with UI Interactions featuring real-time blurring effects, contextual wallpapers, and lock screen customizations.

China-Specific Features
While OriginOS 4 offers a plethora of exciting features, some elements may remain exclusive to the Chinese market. These include the new Blue Heart Jr V assistant powered by AI and Family Health, which tracks the smart devices of other family members through a convenient widget. Additionally, Vivo's smart car 4.0, serving as an alternative to Android Auto, is geared towards the Chinese market and provides an interface when connecting your smartphone to supported cars.
Seeding of OriginOS 4 to existing devices is set to begin by the end of the year. The first devices to receive this update include the China-based variants of X Fold2, X Flip, X90, X90 Pro, and X90 Pro+, as well as iQOO 11, iQOO 11S, and iQOO 11 Pro. The upcoming Vivo X100 and iQOO 12 series will come pre-installed with OriginOS 4.
While OriginOS 4 brings a slew of enhancements and exciting features, it's important to note that Vivo does not have plans to extend it to phones outside of China. For international users, Funtouch 14 is the update to watch out for.
