Vivo V7, V7+ to be discontinued in India; two new 18:9 smartphones coming soon
Looks like Vivo is planning to change its strategy in India.
Chinese smartphone brands such as Xiaomi and Vivo are highly popular in India. Given that Xiaomi is a market leader in the country, the other manufacturers are coming up with new strategies to compete with it. One such brand is Vivo that has carved a niche for itself in the Indian market with its selfie-centric smartphones.
Back in the last quarter of 2017, Vivo announced the Vivo V7 and V7+ smartphones as its first full-screen smartphones. Also, these devices came with a 24MP Moonlight selfie camera for the first time. Now, it looks like the company is in plans to improve its presence in the country with the launch of new models.
As per a report by PhoneRadar, it is believed that Vivo will discontinue the V7 and V7+ in favor of the two new models those are yet to be launched. Given that the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro were launched in India on Wednesday with a full-screen design and 18:9 display, it looks like Vivo will also announce two smartphones with FullView 18:9 display. For now, there is no word on the other details about these upcoming smartphones but the reports speculate that these could be exclusive to the Indian market though the possibility for the same seems to be unlikely.
Recently, Vivo announced price cuts on the Vivo V7 and V7+. Also, the company came up with limited edition models of these smartphones to increase the sales. Vivo even slashed the profit margins for the offline retailers by more than 40% leading to a loss of over 10,000 retailers in a very short span of time, claims the report.
The discontinuation of the Vivo V7 and V7+ in India could be due to the uninspiring performance of these smartphones in the country. Lately, we have been coming across leaked renders of an upcoming Vivo smartphone with a very high screen-to-body ratio. We can expect this smartphone to be one of two new devices those are expected to be launched in India in the near future.
Notably, Vivo has not come up with an official confirmation regarding the discontinuation of these smartphones or the launch of the two new smartphones as the speculation.
