Vivo Y79 with FullView display, 24MP selfie camera launched
The Vivo Y79 seems to be the re-branded model of Vivo V7 Plus that was launched in India in September.
November 2 was an eventful day in terms of smartphone launches. Many manufacturers including HTC, Xiaomi, Oppo unveiled their new offerings yesterday.
Chinese company Vivo also launched a smartphone called Vivo Y79 in its home country. Judging from the specs, it has a lot of similarities with the Vivo V7 Plus that was introduced in India in September. The only major difference between the two smartphones is the processor. The Y79 packs a Snapdragon 625 Soc, while the V7 Plus is powered by a Snapdragon 450 SoC.
As far as the rest of the specs are concerned, the Vivo Y79 arrives with a 6-inch full-screen HD 'FullView' display with the screen resolution of 1,440×720 pixels, and an aspect ratio of 18:9. The display takes up about 84.4 percent area of the phone's front panel. There are no bezels on the sides of the display, while the top and bottom bezels have been reduced to a great extent.
As mentioned earlier, the Vivo Y79 is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor with the clock frequency of 2.0GHz. The chipset is teamed with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage space which is further expandable up to 256GB via the microSD card slot.
Talking about the main highlight, Vivo Y79 is equipped with a 24MP front camera that comes with f/2.0 aperture, 1/2.78-inch sensor, and a 'Moonlight Glow' soft selfie light. The front camera also comes with Portrait Mode and Face Beauty 7.0, which can take enhanced selfies.
There is a 16MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and dual-LED flash.
The handset is backed by a 3,225mAh battery and it runs FunTouch OS 3.2 based on Android 7.1 Nougat. As per Vivo, the Y79 has a 'Do Not Disturb' mode for gaming which bars calls, messages while the gaming session is on.
The smartphone features a fingerprint scanner on its back as well as a Face Wake feature; a new biometric feature that can unlock the device by scanning the owner's face. The Vivo Y79 has been launched in four color variants; Black, Rose Gold, Matte Black and Champagne Gold.
Pre-orders for the smartphone have already opened in China, and it will go on sale from November 11 onwards. The Y79 will be sold at 2,498 Yuan (approximately Rs. 24,350).
