Google I/O 2018

Android 9 OS

Android 9 will be the next iteration of the open source mobile operating system from the search engine giant, which will run on millions of upcoming smartphones. The Android 9 is expected to natively support the notch. Currently, there are many Android smartphones with a notch. However, as Android 8 Oreo does not support, some of the applications fail to optimise for the newer display form factor. As we have already seen on the beta version of the Android 9 on Pixel smartphone, a developer will be able to adjust the size of the notch depending on the smartphone to offer a seamless user experience.

2nd Generation Google Home smart speakers

Google is also expected to announce the second generation Google Home speakers, which will replace the current gen Google Home Mini, Google Home, and the Google Home max. These speakers are expected to offer improved user interactions with a screen similar to the Amazon Echo Spot. Considering the launch date of the Google Home in India, the 2nd Gen Google Home will not be made available in India at least for next few months.

Android Wear OS

Google is trying very hard to compete against the likes of the Apple Watch and the watchOS, which holds the majority of the wearable market. With this iteration of the wearable OS, the company is expected to bring in more value-added features like dark mode, improved battery life and better UI design.

Artificial Intelligence

Most of the tech companies are betting heavily on the AI. Similarly, Google might also improve the Google Assistant, which is found on most of the smartphones (including iOS and Android) using AI technologies.

The company is expected to announce the next generation Android TV OS, which can be seen on the upcoming smart televisions. The Android TV OS is expected to offer seamless integration between smartphones and televisions and the company might also announce the next generation Chromecast with improved streaming capabilities.
