Xiaomi 17 Launched with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC, 7000 mAh Battery, HyperOS 3, Leica Triple Cameras
Xiaomi has officially unveiled the first smartphones to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, less than a day after Qualcomm's announcement. The Xiaomi 17 series bring three new phones to the fray, including the Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max, although our focus will be on the vanilla model.
Xiaomi 17 Price and Availability
The Xiaomi 17 starts at CNY 4,499 (approximately Rs. 56,000) for the base model with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. The higher-end variants are priced at CNY 4,799 (around Rs. 60,000) for the 12GB RAM + 512GB storage option and CNY 4,999 (roughly Rs. 62,000) for the top model with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage.

The Xiaomi 17 is offered in blue, black, white, and pink shades. As of now there are no details on the Xiaomi 17's availability outside China. However, we expect the Xiaomi 17 to launch in India in Q1 2026.
Xiaomi 17 Specifications
The Xiaomi 17 is powered by the next-gen Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage. The handset runs Android 16 out of the box with the new HyperOS 3.0 skin on top. It boasts a 6.3-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2,656x1,220 pixels and supports up to a 120Hz refresh rate. The screen offers a peak brightness of 3,500 nits and supports HDR10+, HDR Vivid, and Dolby Vision.
The phone houses a robust battery capacity of 7,000mAh supporting fast charging options-100W wired and wireless charging at up to 50W. Connectivity features include dual-band Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth version 5.4 compatibility. It also comes with a USB Type-C port (USB3.2 Gen1) for versatile connectivity needs.

For photography enthusiasts, the Xiaomi 17 provides a Leica-tuned triple rear camera setup. This includes a primary Light Fusion 950 sensor of 50 megapixels with an f/1.67 aperture and a focal length of 23mm, alongside a telephoto lens and an ultrawide-angle sensor both at 50 megapixels each. The front-facing camera also boasts a resolution of 50 megapixels. The camera setup here is co-developed with Leica.
The rear cameras support video recording up to an impressive resolution of 8K at 30fps or alternatively at up to 4K resolution at up to 60fps. The dimensions measure approximately 151x72x8mm, while maintaining its lightweight design weighing around 191g. The phone carries an IP68 rating ensuring dust-and-water resistance claimed by Xiaomi as being ten times more resilient than its predecessor model.
