The full-screen smartphones - Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus were announced in China in December. Following the same, the Redmi 5 was launched in India on March 14. The device is slated to go on sale starting from today via Mi.com, Amazon India and Mi Home stores all over the country. Ahead of the first sale, Xiaomi has taken to Twitter to reveal that this is one of the largest sale ever.

Xiaomi claims that over 4 lakh units of the Redmi 5 will be listed for today's sale. The tweet reads, "Mi fans! We heard you and just to meet your overwhelming love, we are bringing the largest quantity ever. Over 4 lakh #Redmi5 will go on sale on 20th March - 12 noon. How many of you are waiting to get India's #CompactPowerhouse?"

Xiaomi has launched the Redmi 5 in three variants in India. The base variant has 2GB RAM and 16GB storage space priced at Rs. 7,999. The middle variant with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage is priced at Rs. 8,999. The high-end variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage space is priced at Rs. 10,999. The smartphone has been launched in four color variants - Black, Rose Gold, Lake Blue, and Gold. Notably, all these variants of the Redmi 5 support up to 128GB of additional storage.

When it comes to the launch offers, the Redmi 5 will go on sale via online today and the offline sale will debut later. The smartphone gets an additional Rs. 2,200 instant cash back offer and 100GB free Reliance Jio 4G data. Also, the company bundles a transparent case along with the Redmi 5. Those who choose to buy the Redmi 5 via Amazon India will get 90% off on the Kindle ebooks and 5% additional cash back on using an SBI credit card for the purchase.

In the terms of technical specifications, the Redmi 5 bestows a 5.7-inch HD+ (720x1440 pixels) with 18:9 aspect ratio. The device employs a 1.8GHz octa-core Snapdragon 450 processor teamed up with Adreno 506 GPU. The Redmi 5 sports a 12MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and PDAF and a 5MP selfie camera with Beautify 3.0 and LED flash. The other goodies include Android 7.1.2 topped with MIUI 9, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, Infrared, USB OTG, FM, 4G VoLTE and a 3300mAh battery.
