Xiaomi Redmi 5 launched in India: Price, specs, launch offers and more
Xiaomi Redmi 5 has been launched in India starting Rs. 7,999.
As teased, the Redmi 5 smartphone has been launched in India today. The smartphone is an Amazon exclusive and will be priced starting Rs. 7,999. The device boasts of a full-screen design and is just 7.7mm in thickness and 11% slimmer than the previous generation model, the Redmi 4. The sale will debut on March 20 via Amazon and Mi.com.
Notably, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 has been launched in three variants between Rs. 7,999 and Rs. 10,999. The smartphone has a full-screen design language with 18:9 aspect ratio display. The specifications remain the same as the Chinese variant. Xiaomi has also detailed the launch offers that the Redmi 5 buyers can avail.
Xiaomi Redmi 5 specs
Xiaomi Redmi 5 adorns a 5.7-inch HD+ (720x1440 pixels) with 18:9 aspect ratio. Under its hood, there is a 1.8GHz octa-core Snapdragon 450 processor along with Adreno 506 GPU. As for the cameras, the Redmi 5 sports a 12MP rear camera with 1.25-micron pixels, f/2.2 aperture and PDAF and a 5MP selfie camera with Beautify 3.0 and LED flash. The smartphone is backed by a 3300mAh battery touted to render up to 12 days of standby time. The other aspects of the Redmi 5 are Android 7.1.2 topped with with MIUI 9, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, Infrared, USB OTG, FM and 4G VoLTE.
Three variants
Xiaomi has launched the Redmi 5 in three variants in India. The base variant has 2GB RAM and 16GB storage space priced at Rs. 7,999. The middle variant with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage is priced at Rs. 8,999. The high-end variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage space is priced at Rs. 10,999. The smartphone has been launched in four color variants - Black, Rose Gold, Lake Blue, and Gold. All these variants have a microSD card slot supporting up to 128GB of additional storage.
Sale and launch offers
The sale of the Redmi 5 will start from March 20 via Amazon India and Mi.com. Xiaomi has confirmed that the device will be available offline via the retail partners later. The company bundles a clear case along with the smartphone. Also, there are additional offers such as Rs. 2,200 instant cash back offer and 100GB additional 4G data from Reliance Jio, and 90% off on Kindle ebooks. Also, there will be 5% cash back on buying the Redmi 5 using SBI credit cards.
