Xiaomi Redmi S2 visits 3C certification site; launch imminent

Xiaomi Redmi S2, Xiaomi's upcoming budget offering is one step closer to launch. After visiting TENAA earlier this week, the smartphone has now made its way to the 3C certification site. Since the Redmi S2 is listed on 3C website, it is believed to launch soon. Existing reports suggest the smartphone will make its debut in China and India.

Unfortunately, the 3C listing doesn't reveal much about the Xiaomi Redmi S2. The company has not made any announcement regarding the smartphone, but the Redmi S2 is likely to arrive in the coming months. As stated, the smartphone was spotted on TENAA recently, and the listing revealed some of its key specs.

According to the TENAA listing, the Redmi S2 is fitted with a 5.99-inch HD+ TFT display with a screen resolution of 1440×720 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor clocked at 2.0GHz.

The TENAA listing further disclosed that the Redmi S2 would come in three memory variants. One with 2GB RAM and 16GB inbuilt storage, another one with 4GB RAM and 32GB inbuilt storage, and the top-end model with 6GB RAM and 64GB of native storage.

In terms of optics, the Redmi S2 is expected to feature a vertically stacked dual rear camera setup with a 12MP primary sensor and an 8MP secondary sensor. The rear camera will also come with an LED flash, PDAF, and EIS. For selfie camera, the smartphone is likely to make use of a 16MP sensor.

The Redmi S2 is also tipped to pack a 3,080mAh battery to keep the lights on. On the connectivity front, it is said to offer standard features like 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS/ A-GPS. The smartphone was listed on TENAA with Gold, Black, Rose Gold, White, Blue, Red, Pink, Gray and Silver color variants. Finally, the handset will most probably run Android 8.1 Oreo OS right out of the box.

As far as the design aspect is concerned, the Xiaomi Redmi S2 is likely to look identical to the recently launched Redmi Note 5 Pro.
