Xiaomi’s Next Ultra Might Launch Without a Rear Display but With Big Camera Changes
If you’ve been tracking Xiaomi’s high-end efforts, you know they’re not afraid to mess with formula. The latest leak, shared by tipster Digital Chat Station, reveals a big shift for the upcoming Xiaomi 17 Ultra: it’ll likely launch without the unique rear display found on recent Pro and Pro Max models.

Instead, the focus this time is apparently all about major camera upgrades and a streamlined design.
Overhauled Camera System
So what’s actually new? According to Digital Chat Station, Xiaomi is fitting the 17 Ultra with a massive 50MP main sensor—much bigger than last year’s—bringing in-sensor zoom for tighter, better-quality shots without traditional loss at higher magnification. The showstopper, though, is a 200MP periscope telephoto, promising broad focal length coverage with improved dynamic range and support for tele-macro photography.
If that all pans out, photographers and video folks may care less about the missing rear display and more about what these new sensors can actually do.
No More Rear Display—And Why That Matters
Dropping the secondary display isn’t just about saving costs. The leak suggests Xiaomi is leaning into a cleaner, more practical rear—the kind of aesthetic that puts the lens array front and center, literally and figuratively. That circular module? It’s supposed to dominate the look this generation.

What Else? Flat Display, Serious Power
The front’s tipped to be a 6.8-inch flat OLED, pushing 2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, while power comes from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
Color choices are rumored to be black, white, and a new purple. Launch is expected before the year wraps.
India Launch on the Cards?
Based on recent trends and company strategy, odds are high that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will stay exclusive to China and won’t see an official release in India.
