Calls

Dual-SIM telephony is rather straight forward and works fine. You are prompted to choose a SIM each time you try to make a call. Both SIMs can be active at the same time and users can receive calls from both lines.

Call quality was decent and clear on both ends, but we do feel that it could have been better. As long as you've got a strong signal, there won't be any static or disturbance during calls.

Apps

Moving onto apps, the phones comes preloaded with popular apps like Twitter, Facebook, and many others. You'll find a wonderful music player, a calendar, a voice recorder and even a file manager as you run through the device.
However, it is disappointing that there still isn't a version of WhatsApp for the Asha 501. Nokia says that it will arrive in sometime. Meanwhile, the company says that you can use apps like WeChat and Line.

If you want more than just the pre-loaded apps, then head over to the Nokia App store for apps like Nokia's Here Maps, ESPN, Foursquare and even LinkedIn. It is worth noting that the device comes bundled with several free games form EA, but then again, most of them are demo-versions, while the rest aren't very entertaining.

Camera

As expected, the Asha 501's camera delivers decent images. Do not expect Carl-Zeis lens or anything fancy. There's a 3x Zoom, a few white balance settings, a self timer and four color tones to pick from. Also, there is no flash for pictures, so clicking pictures in low-light indoor conditions will only result in bad images. Move onto video-recording, and there is no zoom. Videos are somewhat grainy, but again, we won't complain since the device is in a low price budget. While videos might look good on the phone, they will be pixelated when you view them from another device or a computer.

Battery

As you cans see here, the device uses a 1,200 mAh battery. Our results with the battery gave us about 20 hours of continuous talk time, which is quite good. The device will easily get you through a busy day or two with ease.
