Browser, Emails and Chat

Despite being a 2G-only phone, the Asha 501 has a mobile-optimized browser called Nokia express that loads pages rather quickly. It works very well with mobile optimized sites and supports multiple tabs. It even has bookmarks and other features. The browser does not support flash based sites and takes a long time to load desktop-only sites. Moving onto images, the browser compresses them and delivers low quality versions, making your load times quicker. You can choose to go for high quality images and wait if it you want to.

The in-built email client supports popular services such as Google, Yahoo, Hotmail and a few more. It supports POP3, SMTP, IMAP4 protocols. Emails arrive in the background and subtle notifications alert you about them.

Moving onto chat, there's support for Facebook, MSN Messenger, Google Talk, Yahoo and Nokia Chat.

Wi-fi, Bluetooth and FM Radio

The device has Wi-Fi and Buetooth connectivity. Apart from this, it also has a feature called Slam which allows you to pick a file and share with another device by knocking it with the your own.
The device comes with FM Radio. As with most other handsets, you will require your headphones to use this feature. The interface was neat and simple.

Performance

We have no details on the processor in the device, but given the price point, we don't expect anything great. Even though it has only about 64MB of ram, the device runs smoothly without any hassles. We were able to run through apps and perform basic functions without any lags or glitches.
