Nokia Lumia 1020 Review: A Photographer's First Love
Software
The handset ships with Windows Phone 8 Amber (GDR2). Apart from a few usability features, there aren't any radical changes as a part of this OS. Owing to the solid Snapdragon S4 processor, users will be treated to fluid UI, quick transitions and much more.
While the app eco-system of Windows Phone is no match to Android and iOS, you get some basics like Microsoft's Office Suite. There's also SkyDrive integration out of the box. The Finnish manufacturer has added its own exclusive suite of apps that include Nokia Music, Here Maps+, City lens, and PhotoBeamer. This package should be able to compensate lightly for the platform's lack of apps. A note worthy mention happens to be Here Maps+, which adds great value to the package with its offline GPS navigation.
Conclusion
Nokia has managed to deliver high quality hardware with the Lumia 1020. The phone is great to hold, sports solid build and has a brilliant display. Its imaging system is currently the best in the market and should be considered by users who need pocketable, high quality imaging systems that can be compared to entry-level DSLRs. The phone makes the Windows Phone 8 OS a joy to use, allowing users to zip through menu screens and run through apps with absolute ease and fluidity.
However, the Windows Phone 8 OS has very few takers in the market when compared to Android and iOS, the market for them is still growing.
Bottom Line
Nokia's Lumia 1020 happens to be a great smartphone with good hardware, best-possible smartphone imaging capabilities and a gorgeous screen. However, its capabilities as a smartphone are limited since it uses the Windows Phone 8 OS and at some points battery power. But in the end. its a great buy for those who want noting but an SLR camera performance fitted in a smartphone.
