Sony SmartWatch 3 Tipped For Launch at CES 2014
Sony, which failed twice to capture the niche wearable market, now reportedly plans to announce SmartWatch3 at the CES 2014.
The Japanese heavy weight tech giant was one of the first companies to bring a smart watch into the market in 2012. Then, the market situation was different with very little exposure given to wearable computing devices.
In the past two years, Sony has come out with two versions of smart watch, but unfortunately the tech vendor failed to create a 'wow' device.
Meanwhile, Samsung also attempted to create a must have smart watch-the situation remains unchanged.
Unfazed by negative feedback, Sony is expected to announce much improved version of SmartWatch2 or simply a new wearable device at the CES later this week.
According to an FCC product filing, the SmartWatch3 -referred to as SWR10 BT Wrist Notifier.
Though, nothing much is known about the purported wearable device, however, the upcoming piece of innovation does come with an NFC and Bluetooth connectivity.
Sony SmartWatch 2, which was launched last year, also had NFC and Bluetooth functionality.
Both Sony SmartWatch 2 and Samsung Galaxy Gear were criticized by the mainstream media for not having built-in calling functionality.
That being said, these sophisticated wearable computing devices turned out to be mere fashion accessories for elite class.
Running on the latest version of Android, these wearable smart watches were supposed to act as an independent device but that didn't happen at all.
Although Samsung Galaxy Gear might offered a camera and more stylish design, but the device never got any attention due to non-compatibility with low and mid ranged Galaxy devices.
Smart watch sales have been poor from the beginning due to insanely high price tag.
This year we could see an improvement in the wearable computing devices market. With biggies like Apple and Google planning to release branded smart watch devices later this year, expect slightly better products in various form factor.
At the CES 2014, Sony could launch the third-generation SmartWatch 3, alongside much hyped Xperia Z1s/ Z1Mini. Even Samsung is also rumored to launch the Galaxy Gear 2 at the MWC 2014. Watch this space for more!
