Spice Smart Pulse - Software and Performance
This Spice-made watch is a feature phone. Yes, you heard it right! It is powered by the Java-based OS. Although the watch is compatible with Android and Windows-powered smart phones, but there's any way to run Android apps on this tiny wonder.
The give Android styled three-way navigation buttons worked really well, but we're still finding their usage in reality. On the downside, you need to switch on the power button each time to the time. And that is where the watch pales in comparison to the Samsung Gear or any modern day intelligent watch for that matter.
There's no other way to active the display. While the UI is fairly responsive, tying on a tiny display is as frustrating as clicking a picture using the watch.
In terms of built-in phone feature, you can always answer or reject calls. As mentioned previously, the device does support dual-SIM feature. You can dial a number, receive calls and view contacts. However, call quality is horrendous.
The main problem with the Spice Smart Pulse is the lack of third-party support. The third-party support has been completely ignored. We haven't got a chance to run apps like Twitter or Facebook for instance. Looks like the company missed out on a big opportunity by not including third-party support.
The most basic role of a modern day smart watch is to deliver notifications, which the Galaxy Gear does disappoint. For beginners, the watch does offer some very basic apps such as Calendar, Alarm, World Clock and free games. To mirror any notifications on your watch, you would need to install an app called as BT Notifier on your Android-powered handset.
On the performance front, we hardly faced any issues. The hardware seemed to perform really well, in our testing. Unfortunately, the company didn't discussed hardware internals with media yet.
