For audiophiles out there a portable music system is a must have so they can enjoy music on the move. Yamaha’s introduction of the portable music system PDX11 is very welcome news for them.

PDX11 is a very compact and easy to carry around music system. The device is made in an octagonal shape. This unique shape gives it a rugged look and quickly makes a style statement. This unique shape also gives it stability even in uneven terrain.

It is available in four different colors. It includes black, dark blue, white and neon green. The outer rim is black in color in all the color options. The speaker is covered by a perforated steel grill which is also colored and has the Yamaha label on it. The device has an ipad/iphone dock on the top. A metal handle is also provided on the top for the ease of carrying it around, since it is mainly targeted for the urban crowd.

Coming to the sound quality the speakers carry on the Yamaha legacy by providing top notch sound. It has a 2 way speaker system and a very large 4 inch woofer. There is also a dedicated tweeter to reproduce higher frequency sounds. The speaker gives very rich bass and very high crystal clear sound quality. The single speaker may not be able to provide stereo sound quality, neither is Yamaha claiming the same, but the marketing strategy is to make the inbuilt speakers as high quality as possible and to ensure that it delivers good sound.

The dimensions of the device are 8-1/4 x 9-3/8 x 9-3/8 inch. It weighs in at around 1.5 kilograms. That’s fairly light and easy to carry around. It works in 6 AA size batteries which is not included in the package. With a new set of batteries it can work for almost 8 hours .It can also be plugged into a wall socket if batteries are not available. There is also 3.5mm audio jack located in the back of the dock. So PDX11 can also be hooked onto your personal computer or music system to enjoy its sound.

One more amazing fact is that the device is water proof. So you don’t need to worry while carrying it around. There is also a very stylish remote that comes with the package. The remote consists of all the basic functions including turning ON/Off the system, playing or stopping music and also other functions like fast forwarding, pausing etc. The remote comes quite handy when using the device outside so that you don’t have to go to it every time some tracks have to be skipped or stopped or so.

Considering the exchange rates the speaker may be expected to be sold at a price tag of close to Rs. 6,000/- in India.
