Lava BeU: Design
Lava, the Indian smartphone manufacturer has introduced its new player in the budget smartphone segment in India. The latest offering by the company comes in the form of BeU. The entry-level smartphone is launched with a shimmering rear panel. It has a dual-lens camera module housed inside a rectangular module along with an LED flash. The BeU branding and a star-shaped grille are what you get on the back panel. The device accommodates a 6.08-inch TFT display that has thick bezels; specifically the chin. The panel comes with an HD+ resolution of 720 x 1560 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19:5:9. It features a U-shaped notch for the selfie camera. This is a basic setup suitable for general video watching.
Lava BeU: Hardware Performance
The Lava BeU gets its power from an octa-core processor which clocks at 1.6GHz. The brand is yet to confirm the name of the chipset. It will be available in 2GB RAM and 32GB native storage. Thanks to the dedicated microSD card, the device can accommodate up to 256GB microSD card along with two SIM cards simultaneously. The smartphone will be able to handle basic tasks with ease. Don’t expect a smooth multitasking or high-end gaming experience. The external microSD card support will handle the storage crunch issue.
Lava BeU: Price To Specs Ratio
The Lava BeU has been announced at Rs. 6,888 in India. It will be available for sale starting December 5 in the country. You will be able to buy this unit in a single Rose Pink color option. The pricing is considerate if you look at the overall spec-sheet. However, the Indian market has received several noted players in this price segment recently. Devices like the Micromax IN 1B, Poco C3, and the Redmi 8A are some of the strongest contenders for the Lava BeU. They all retail for a similar price tag and offer some set of better features.
Lava BeU: Camera Performance
The Lava BeU uses a dual-lens setup at the rear for primary imaging. The handset packs a 13MP main camera that has an f/1.8 aperture and an additional 2MP sensor for bokeh effects. This basic setup will get you through with general photography. The broad daylight images are expected to be better than the low-light shots. Moving upfront, the U-shaped notch stores an 8MP camera sensor with an f/2.2 aperture.
Lava BeU: Important/ Highlight Features
The Lava BeU is an Android Go Edition smartphone which means it will be pre-installed with a lighter version of some APKs. The device will draw its fuel via a 4,060 mAh battery which will take charge over a microUSB port. Since this is an entry-level smartphone, the company has skipped in the fast charging support.
Lava BeU: Verdict
Lava is making a comeback in the budget segment with the launch of the BeU. The company plans to add four more devices in the coming days to its affordable smartphone portfolio. The latest offering seems well-rounded for a sub Rs. 10,000 price tag. But, the company could have used a regular Android OS instead of the Go Edition. Moreover, there is just one variant that the company has announced. An additional variant would have given users to select a model as per requirement.

Rating a smartphone is a tedious process and a lot of parameters have to be considered before judging the overall performance of the device such as display, camera, processor, RAM, storage, battery, and the pricing.
So, here are how these specs will affect the real-life usage of a device and why how we meticulously consider each of these points to rate a smartphone.
Cameras have evolved a lot over the last few years and multi-camera setup is a new norm. We consider various parameters like MP count, aperture size, pixel size, image stabilization to rate a camera system of a smartphone out of 5. Any device that scores more than 3.5 can take good photos and videos and if a phone scores over 4, then it will be one of the best camera smartphones in the market.
Though battery seems like an underrated feature and we look at the battery capacity, fast charging supporting technology, and even the wireless charging capability is also taken into consideration to rate smartphone's battery capability.
The display is the face of a smartphone. And there are a lot of parameters like the panel technology (IPS LCD, OLED, TFT) and other parameters also taken into consideration like the resolution, pixel density, and refresh rate.
A smartphone could have great specs, but if it is not priced well then you might not get the best value-for-money. So, we compare a smartphone with the contemporaries to rate the value-for-money of a device out of 5.
This aspect is decided on various sub specifics, such as availability of microSD card slot, the amount of RAM the device offers, processor capability, and the network support. This parameter has more weightage when compared to other departments.
