Vivo Y51s: Design

The Vivo Y51s is the latest mid-range 5G smartphone from the Chinese smartphone maker Vivo. Just like most of the mid-range smartphones from the company, the Vivo Y51s also has a plastic unibody design and it comes with a gradient finish that gives a premium look.

At the front, the Vivo Y51s beholds a 6.53-inch IPS LCD screen with FHD+ resolution and 2.5D curved tempered glass protection. The display has a tiny punch hole opening at the top left corner that houses the high-resolution selfie camera and gives the Vivo Y51s a modern look.

Vivo Y51s: Hardware Performance

The Vivo Y51s is based on the Exynos 800 SoC, which is the latest mid-range 5G chipset from Samsung. This is an octa-core processor with two high-performance cores clocked at 2.0GHz and six efficient cores clocked at 1.8GHz. As per the gaming, the chipset offers the Mali-G76 MP5, capable of handling games like PUBG without any issue.

In terms of storage, the Vivo Y51s offer at least 128GB, and the phone also comes with 6GB RAM. The smartphone does support dual nano-SIM card slots with 4G LTE and 5G network support. Besides, the device also offers a microSD card for additional storage expansion.

Vivo Y51s: Camera Performance

The Vivo Y51s has a triple camera setup at the back with a 48MP primary sensor, 2MP depth sensor, and a 2MP depth sensor. The primary camera takes 12MP images by default and it can also shoot native 48MP images as well. There is an 8MP selfie camera at the front with support for 1080p video recording and face unlock.

As per the camera performance is concerned, the Vivo Y51s has a modern camera setup that could take good photos in almost every lighting condition. Due to the higher MP count, the images shot on the Vivo Y51s are expected to retain a lot of details.

Vivo Y51s: Price To Specs Ratio

The Vivo Y51s retails for approx Rs. 19,000 in China and the device might cost the same when it launches in India. For the asking price, the Vivo Y51s seems like a great mid-range 5G smartphone with a modern design and a good processor that can handle day-to-day tasks.

Given the specs sheet of the Vivo Y51s, the device seems to offer balanced features and does not feature any USP, other than the fact that it is a 5G smartphone. If you are looking for a cheap 5G smartphone, then you can consider the Vivo Y51s.

Vivo Y51s: Important Features/Highlights

The Vivo Y51s packs a moderately sized 4,500 mAh battery and the device also supports 18W fast charging. However, it still comes with a micro USB port, which is one of the drawbacks of the smartphone. The Vivo Y51s does include a 3.5mm headphone jack, allowing users to charge the phone and listen to music via a wired headphone at the same time.

Coming to the software experience, the Vivo Y51s runs on Android 10 OS with custom FunTouch OS skin on top that offers a plethora of customization options. The smartphone also has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, which is easy to access and works accurately.

Vivo Y51s: Verdict

The highlight of the Vivo Y51s is the fact that it comes with a 5G connectivity and the rest of the specifications are similar to some of the mid-range smartphones launched in 2020. If you want a 5G smartphone at the lowest price tag, then the Vivo Y51s is the smartphone to consider.

How do we rate a Device?

Rating a smartphone is a tedious process and a lot of parameters have to be considered before judging the overall performance of the device such as display, camera, processor, RAM, storage, battery, and the pricing.

So, here are how these specs will affect the real-life usage of a device and why how we meticulously consider each of these points to rate a smartphone.

Camera

Cameras have evolved a lot over the last few years and multi-camera setup is a new norm. We consider various parameters like MP count, aperture size, pixel size, image stabilization to rate a camera system of a smartphone out of 5. Any device that scores more than 3.5 can take good photos and videos and if a phone scores over 4, then it will be one of the best camera smartphones in the market.

Battery

Though battery seems like an underrated feature and we look at the battery capacity, fast charging supporting technology, and even the wireless charging capability is also taken into consideration to rate smartphone's battery capability.

Display

The display is the face of a smartphone. And there are a lot of parameters like the panel technology (IPS LCD, OLED, TFT) and other parameters also taken into consideration like the resolution, pixel density, and refresh rate.

Value for Money

A smartphone could have great specs, but if it is not priced well then you might not get the best value-for-money. So, we compare a smartphone with the contemporaries to rate the value-for-money of a device out of 5.

Performance

This aspect is decided on various sub specifics, such as availability of microSD card slot, the amount of RAM the device offers, processor capability, and the network support. This parameter has more weightage when compared to other departments.
