Amazon’s New Prime Video Policy Limits Streaming to 5 Devices Starting 2025
If you've been sharing your Amazon Prime Video account across multiple devices with family or friends, a big change is coming your way (as spotted by Ishan Agarwal). Starting January 2025, Amazon Prime Video will reduce the number of devices that can connect to a single account in India. The new policy caps the device limit at five, and only two of those can be TVs.
This adjustment may not be as strict as some policies introduced by other streaming platforms, but it's still a significant change for households or groups relying on multiple screens to enjoy their favorite content.

What's Changing for Amazon Prime Video Users?
Currently, Amazon Prime Video allows up to 10 devices to log in under one account. These devices could include smartphones, tablets, laptops, or TVs. However, from January 2025, the following limits will apply:
- Device Limit: A maximum of five devices can be connected to one account.
- TV Limit: Out of those five devices, only two can be TVs.
If you attempt to log in on a third TV, you'll be prompted to remove one of the other devices or upgrade by purchasing an additional subscription.
Flexibility Within Limits
To ease the transition, Amazon will let users manage their connected devices through the settings page. Subscribers can remove and replace up to two devices every 30 days. For instance, if you no longer use a registered device, you can deregister it and add a new one without exceeding the limit.
This approach ensures that while the device cap is enforced, users still have some control over their account setup.
How Does This Impact Subscribers?
For many families or groups who rely on a single account across multiple screens, this change might require some adjustment. Households using more than two TVs for Prime Video will need to either limit their usage or purchase another subscription.
The ability to swap devices every 30 days, however, provides some flexibility. It means you won't be locked into a fixed set of devices and can adapt based on your changing needs.
Amazon Prime Membership Options
The new policy applies to all Prime Video subscribers, but it's worth noting the range of membership plans available in India:
- Monthly Plan: ₹299
- Quarterly Plan (3 months): ₹599
- Annual Plan (12 months): ₹1,499
- Prime Lite Plan (12 months): ₹799 per year (includes mobile streaming at 720p resolution).
The plans also come with additional benefits like one-day and same-day delivery, free shipping on eligible orders, access to Prime Music, Prime Gaming, and more.
