Apple Intelligence Will Support German, Italian, Korean, and More Languages in 2025

Apple is set to introduce its much-anticipated Apple Intelligence in October with the release of iOS 18.1. Initially available in U.S. English, Apple plans to expand language support over the coming year, making its AI-driven features accessible to a broader global audience.

Phased Language Rollout

The first wave of language support for Apple Intelligence will begin in October 2024 with U.S. English. In December, additional English dialects will be introduced, including those spoken in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the U.K.

Apple Intelligence to Add German, Italian, & More Languages in 2025

Apple told publications that by 2025, Apple Intelligence will support more languages, including Chinese, French, Japanese, and Spanish, as well as newly-announced languages such as English (India), English (Singapore), German, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, and Vietnamese.

Feature Highlights in iOS 18.1

The iOS 18.1 update brings several Apple Intelligence-powered features to users. Some of these include:

  • Proofreading Tools: Enhanced writing tools designed to proofread and improve text within apps.
  • Notification Summaries: An organized summary of notifications to streamline user experience.
  • Suggested Replies in Messages: AI-generated responses that enable quicker and more efficient communication.
  • Phone Call Transcription: The ability to record and transcribe phone calls in real-time.
  • Photos Cleanup Tool: A new feature allowing users to quickly remove objects from photos.

Limited Availability in the EU

While Apple Intelligence will be available in multiple regions, its release in the European Union (EU) faces hurdles due to the Digital Markets Act. This legislation has designated iOS and iPadOS as gatekeepers, limiting the availability of the AI features on iPhones and iPads in the EU. However, Apple Intelligence will still be accessible on Macs equipped with the M1 chip or newer, as macOS is not subject to the same restrictions.

Apple is currently in discussions with EU regulators to explore potential workarounds for bringing the features to more devices in the region. Similar challenges exist in China, where AI-related regulations are posing barriers to a full rollout.

Apple Intelligence - Eligibility

Apple Intelligence will be available on the iPhone 16 lineup, including the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max, as well as on the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max models. In addition, the feature will be available on the latest iPads and Macs equipped with M-series chips.
