Apple Is Reportedly Building an AI Doctor for iOS 19; Could Offer Health Coaching, Food Tracking, and More

Apple is reportedly developing an AI-powered health assistant, and while it might sound like something from the distant future, it could land as early as 2026 with iOS 19.4.

The project, internally known as Project Mulberry, is part of a larger revamp of the Apple Health app-one that could turn your iPhone into something much closer to a personal health coach.

Apple’s iOS 19 Update May Introduce AI Doctor in Revamped Health+ App

Project Mulberry: AI Meets Apple Health

According to a detailed report by Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, the AI system is designed to tap into the health data Apple already collects-from your Apple Watch, iPhone, AirPods, and even third-party apps-and use it to deliver personalized health advice. That could include anything from diet suggestions to exercise feedback, even tips on improving your workout form using your phone's camera.

Health+ and Food Tracking Could Be on the Way

The new health app, possibly branded as Health+, may also include food tracking features-an area Apple hasn't explored much yet. If it does, the company could be positioning itself to compete with apps like MyFitnessPal and Noom, combining data analysis with coaching tools in a single interface.

Doctors Behind the Scenes

Gurman also reports that Apple is working closely with in-house physicians to train the AI and create content. The company is building a dedicated facility in California where doctors can record health-related videos, and it's reportedly searching for a well-known medical expert or "doctor personality" to anchor this content and make the platform more relatable.

Health as Apple's Legacy?

All of this fits within Apple CEO Tim Cook's long-standing vision that the company's most meaningful impact might not be a device, but a contribution to global health and wellness. And while Apple's past attempts at rolling out AI features-like its news summaries-haven't always gone smoothly, the company seems to be taking a more cautious, expert-led approach here.

If Apple pulls it off, this could signal a shift in how we use tech to manage our well-being-bridging the gap between passive tracking and proactive health advice.
