Chinese Student Imprisoned For 3 Years After $1 Million Apple Scam
There are many cases of imprisonment in the United States when it comes to selling fake smartphones for big brands like Apple, Samsung, and more. In the latest report, it has been reported that a Chinese student has been sentenced to three years and one month of imprisonment for being guilt in fake iPhone scamming.
Quan Jiang pleaded guilty for smuggling fake Apple iPhones and claiming warranty of approximately $1 million. The reports also suggest that the student will be deported back to his country after imprisonment.
As per the court documents and Gizmo China report, Jiangand and Yangyang Zhou, his partner in the scam had imported thousands of fake replicas of iPhones from China. After getting delivery of fake iPhone the duo filled warranty complain claiming that their iPhones are not working.
In return, they get the replacement with the original models and sent to back to China to earn some profit. On each unit, he earned a profit of up to $30 all total he has earned $40,000 from the scamming business.
According to the report, Apple told that they have issued 1,493 iPhone units to the scammers and each unit have given the loss of $600. The company has also rejected the replacement of 1,576 units and returned it to the users.
Now the question arises that how Jiangand and Zhou manage to faked the IMEI number of the iPhone units, because IMEI numbers are very crucial detail to check the warranty of the unit. Moreover, Apple has also not identified replicas. Either there must be someone from the company who helped these guys with the IMEI numbers or the scenario is something different altogether.
Meanwhile, Jiangand has already paid $200,000 to the company after his parents sold their home back in China. He also has to leave his 2015 Mercedes-Benz as a penalty. The court has ordered that he will under GPS surveillance until he surrenders on December 5.
