Hyderabad Police Hawk Eye App Recovers 67 Stolen Phones Worth Rs. 6 Lakh
Smartphone thefts have become a nuisance all across the world. With most of us relying on these handheld devices for communication, losing it becomes a major concern. The hassle of reporting a lost smartphone is another fuss which one has to go through. Most of us are unaware of the mobile tracking apps that can locate our devices when lost.
Apparently, one such app has helped the Indian police to recover a whole bunch of smartphones from the thieves. The mobile phone application which helped the Hyderabad Police to recover 67 mobile phones is called the Hawk Eye. The app was initially introduced back in 2015 as a part of the citizen-friendly and responsive policing.
The app is available for download on both the Google PlayStore and the Apple App store and weighs around 7.3MB. It is worth mentioning that the police forces act on the lost smartphone reports by tracking the IMEI number of those devices. It is worth mentioning that the 67 mobile phones recovered by the Hyderabad Police have an estimated value of around Rs. 6 lakh.
Over 8 lakh users are said to be registered on this application using the facilities to safeguard their devices against theft. Anjani Kumar, Hyderabad Police Commissioner revealed that over 8,96,000 people are making use of this application. He quoted "Hawk Eye application facilitates the registered users to report the loss of their mobile phones. Based on the complaints, IT core team at the Commissioner of Police office tracks the lost mobile phones using their IMEI numbers."
He further suggested that users make sure they double-check the IMEI numbers of older smartphones on the Hawk Eye application. This is to make sure that the purchased device is not stolen saving users from the hassles later on.
This is quite a use of technology the Indian police are making use of. And it's good to see that there is an effort being made to make it easy for the public to not only report a lost device but also getting it back just with the help of a mobile application.
