Smartphone Explosion Results In Child’s Death: Xiaomi Responds Even Though Device’s Brand Not Yet Confirmed
An eight-year-old girl died due to a smartphone explosion in the Indian state of Kerala, confirmed the local law enforcement agency. Xiaomi India has responded to the accident even though the brand of the smartphone involved in the accident isn't yet known.
In yet another incident involving a smartphone, a young girl was fatally injured while watching a video. The accident comes just a week after a boy in Uttar Pradesh, India, died of a fatal electric shock from a smartphone. Although sporadic, such incidents have once again raised multiple concerns about the safety of consumers and the dangers of using smartphones.

Indian Girl Dies After Smartphone Explodes In Her Face
An eight-year-old girl from Kerala died from a smartphone explosion, the local police reportedly told news agency PTI. The deceased was a student in class 3 at a local school.
Local police have registered a case, and a probe is currently on. The details about the nature of the explosion aren't known yet. However, law enforcement notified the girl was using the accident-causing smartphone at night to watch videos when it exploded in her face.
Xiaomi Responds To The Fatal Accident Involving A Smartphone
After the news of the accident spread, a few news agencies suggested that it was a Xiaomi Redmi smartphone that exploded. It is important to note that local law enforcement hasn't indicated the make or brand of the smartphone.
Even though the brand of the smartphone hasn't been disclosed, Xiaomi India has issued a statement:
"At Xiaomi India, customer safety is of utmost importance and we take such matters extremely seriously. We stand with the family in this time of difficulty and hope to support them in any way possible. There are some reports that this is a Redmi phone which is yet to be established, given the matter is currently being investigated. We will work with the authorities to determine the actual cause of the incident and will support them in any required manner."
This is the third accident this year that involved a smartphone. Apart from the accidents in Kerala and Uttar Pradesh, a man in Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain district died after the battery of his mobile phone allegedly exploded a couple of months ago. All the incidents are currently being investigated.
