What to expect from CES 2012?

CES, the Consumer Electronics Show of 2012 is nearing. Yes, it is one of the much anticipated technological show happening every year. The CES 2012 is scheduled from 9th to 13th of this month. This show will see the complete technical world descending in Las Vegas. The biggest tech brands will discuss about their plans for the year.

 

The show covers an area of over 1.8 million sq. feet and will have over 140,000 attendees from the world. This year's show is going to be greener than the previous shows as the attendee badge holders are composed of the repurposed vinyl banners of the last year's show. These will again be recycled after the show for the next year. The total recycled material of last year accounted to about 289.6 tons.

 

What are basic expectations that one can have about the CES 2012? Here is a list of the products that can be expected. These are just the predictions and there can be some changes in these. We will have to wait for the CES to get over to know exactly what are the products that are launching in the year.

Windows 8 tablets

The Android tablets ruled in 2011 and this year might the one for Windows 8. Already a Samsung branded tablet powered by Windows 8 is expected to hit the shelves by the second half of the year and there are also rumors of Nokia to release a tablet powered by Windows 8 in the next year.

Xbox 720 goes official

There are rumors about the updation of the Xbox console this year and Microsoft has not made any announcements on this so far. The rivals like Sony and Nintendo ofcourse have their products like the Vita and Wii U but we are very sure that they are not going to have any great news and therefore giving a huge opportunity to Microsoft. Moreover this is the last year for Microsoft at CES and so they might be having something for the show.

Social and connected TV

Nowadays, the streaming services like Hulu and Netflix makes the content available and therefore the manufacturers of television are looking forward to use these technologies to their products. A major part of the TVs present at the CES will have the feature of connecting to the web content. The manufacturers are already into manufacturing televisions with the social integration and connectivity to the websites like Twitter and Facebook.

Windows Phone Tango based smartphones

Microsoft is likely to announce the Windows Phone Tango platform for the smartphones. This software update will allow the handsets powered by Windows Phone to support the LTE. There are already rumors of Nokia and HTC handsets to come up with this platform. Microsoft joined with Nokia to launch the Windows Phone handsets and the first one of the genre is the Lumia 710. Now at CES, we can expect more such handsets from carriers like AT&T and Verizon.

Android Ice Cream Sandwich

The world already has tasted the Ice Cream Sandwich operating system with the launch of the Galaxy Nexus. The CES is expected to have more Android 4.0 powered handsets from the leading manufacturers.

Quad-core smartphones and tablets

2011 was the year dual core processors and this year is likely to be the year for the quad core ones. These improve the performance of the device as well as aid in the playback of the videos with the 4G LTE networks that are fast. Nvidia has announced the first quad core processor in November and it claims that this is five times as fast as the dual core processors that are used in the smartphones and tablets.
