Google Doodle Celebrates Maria Montessori's 142nd Birthday
After demonstrating a series of consecutive Doodles for the London Olympics 2012, Google has come up with a Doodle today to celebrate the 142nd birth anniversary of Maria Montessori.
Montessori was an Italian educator and physician, well known for the philosophy of education, named after her. Her educational methods are being used by public and private schools all over the world. Montessori education system tries to bring out the creative potential of the children.
The Doodle depicts various educational tools, which are common in the Montessori schools.
Born on August 31, 1870, Montessori was the first Italian woman to acquire a degree in medicine from the University of Rome in 1896.
In 1907, she opened her first preschool for children, which was highly successful leading to the opening of several such schools. She had been to different countries including India to spread her educational system.
She passed away on May 6, 1952 due to cerebral haemmorrhage in Netherlands.
