Google Doodle Celebrates the 229th Anniversary of Mont Blanc Ascent
Today, Google marks the 229th anniversary of the first ascent of Mont Blanc by dedicating a Doodle. Mont Blanc, also known as Monte Bianco is the tallest mountain in the Alps and 11th tallest in the world with the altitude of 4,807 meters above sea level.

Jacques Balmat and Michel Paccard were the first people to reach the top of the peak on August 8, 1786. In regards, Google doodle shows a Mont Blanc peak with two stick figures climbing up to the top.

This climb was initiated by Horace Bénédict de Saussure in 1760, who said to offer financial help to anyone who could climb Mont Blanc. In 1808, Marie Paradis became the first woman to successfully climb Mont Blanc.
A Google Doodle is a special, temporary alteration of the logo on Google's homepage that is intended to celebrate holidays, events, achievements and people. The first Google Doodle was in honor of the Burning Man Festival of 1998.
