Google Play Hits 25 Billion Downloads, Declares Five Days Discount on App Purchase

According to the Android blog, Google"s app store has surpassed the 25 billion downloads mark. Also, Google has announced that its digital storefront, Google Play, has passed 25 billion downloads with over 675,000 available apps and games.

Google Play is a little behind Apple"s App Store, which hit 25 billion downloads back in March. To commemorate the occasion, the company will be offering deals on apps, music, movies, and books over the next five days, including $0.25 games from Electronic Arts, Rovio, Gameloft, and others.

“Twenty-five billion is more than twice the distance, in miles, that the Voyager 1 spacecraft has travelled since its launch 35 years ago. It"s the amount of time, in minutes, that have passed since some of our earliest ancestors began to set foot in Europe. And now, thanks to all of you, it"s a Google Play milestone. We look forward to the next 25 billion," said Google Director of Digital Content Jamie Rosenberg.

Android chief Andy Rubin tweeted earlier this month that Google was seeing 1.3 million Android device activations per day (up 400,000 from Rubin"s last congratulatory tweet back in June).
