Beware of Free iPad, iPhone 5 Scam of Twitter
It's come to Gizbot's attention that there is a scam going around in Twitter. There is tweet making rounds which claims that a site called appletryout. com is offering free iPhone 5 or an iPad 3. The tweet was sent was personally sent to Gizbot as well.
The objective of this tweet is as simple as the 1000 of e-mails that land up in you junk folder everyday. When you visit this site, you are asked to take a monthly survey. It conveniently says this will only take 30 seconds of your time and will help improve user experience. It promises you a brand new iPhone 5 or an iPad 3 up on finishing the survey.
The scam is one of the oldest tricks in the book, it is meant to steal personal information. These scams trick users into providing their home address, phone number and even bank-account numbers. These sort of tricks are a crime, but it is even a bigger crime to fall for it. Do not fall for them!
Anyways, Twitter blocked the account behind the tweet. However appletryout.com is still online and it seams to say that the offer is only available for the day. But, there is good chance it will say the same thing every day.
