Facebook down in India on March 13, 2012?

Facebook India was actually down today, March 13th, 2012. You would have noticed that as you try opening the social network, it displayed the following error.

Facebook down in India on March 13, 2012?

The same issue occurred previously on February 25th, 2012, but it was only for an hour or still less. Whereas, today the condition prevailed for over a couple of hours and the website was completely not responding. Last time when this incident took place, the log in page, extra applications like fan page icon and sharing option were working pretty well. Today, none of these were responding.

There was rumor doing rounds that the social network will terminate the operations in the country on March 15th, 2012. But it is meaningless as neither the Indian government nor the social network itself has announced about it. Few days back, the same issue occurred in Europe and Facebook was down for two hours. The authorities announced that there were some technical problems that have led to such kind of issues. However, some sites reported that it was due to the attack by the hackers.

As of now nothing is confirmed and even the last time there were no information about what caused such interruption. The social network has started working fine now, despite being down in the morning. What could be the reason behind this? Leave your opinions in the comment section below.
