Facebook Revamps Its Mobile Video Player With Unified Fullscreen and Smoother Navigation
Facebook is set to enhance the video viewing experience on its mobile apps by introducing a revamped video player. This update aims to provide a unified full-screen mode for viewing Reels, longer videos, and live content, addressing the current inconsistency in user experience. This development was announced on Wednesday via a post on the Meta newsroom.
The new video player will initially roll out on iOS and Android platforms in the US and Canada, with plans to extend globally in the following months. This move will allow users across the board to enjoy all types of videos in a vertical full-screen format, a feature inspired by Instagram's Reels. The interface will include options like like, comment, share, and sending videos to contacts on Messenger, enhancing user interaction.

For instance, Facebook might suggest a Reel that offers ideas for a fast, everyday makeup look or a comprehensive tutorial video about DIY home renovations by seasoned homeowners.
Improved Navigation and Recommendations Alongside the unified full-screen experience, Facebook is introducing better navigation controls for videos. Viewers will have the ability to pause videos, skip forward or backward by ten seconds, and use a bottom slider for more precise control over video playback. For videos not in vertical format, users can switch to landscape mode by clicking an icon that appears on full-screen horizontal videos.
Furthermore, Facebook is optimizing its recommendation system to suggest content based on user interests. This could range from quick makeup tutorials in Reel format to extensive DIY house improvement guides. The update aims to make content discovery more intuitive and tailored to individual preferences.
