Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp Back Online After Major Meta Outage

Meta's social media platforms and messaging services recently went down for thousands of users in the US. According to Downdetector, thousands of users across Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram faced outages in the late hours of Wednesday, December 11.

While the outages continued into the early hours of Thursday December 12, the issues have since been resolved according to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Down Detector reported problems with the app in the US, UK, Europe, Asia, Australia, and South America.

Meta Platforms Back Online

On an official post on X, Meta said, "Thanks for bearing with us! We're 99% of the way there - just doing some last checks. We apologize to those who've been affected by the outage." WhatsApp account on X said, "And we're back, happy chatting."

Additionally, X's official Instagram account noted, "Andddd we're back - sorry for the wait, and thanks for bearing with us." However, none of Meta's platforms have elaborated on the issues.

Why Meta Outages are so Disruptive?

The recent Meta outage was particularly disruptive as it affected users across its major platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger. For individuals, it hindered communication, making it difficult to stay connected with friends and family. For businesses, the outage disrupted marketing campaigns, customer service, and sales channels that rely on these platforms.
