Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp Subscriptions Rollout Globally: What Meta Offers When You Pay for Social Media
Meta has launched paid subscription plans for Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, offering users optional extra features for a monthly fee. The company is rolling out the new "Plus" services worldwide, adding premium tools for customisation, analytics and messaging across its main social media apps.
The move comes as Meta increases spending on artificial intelligence while investors scrutinise costs. Meta recently forecast total expenditure of between $125 billion and $145 billion in 2024, largely directed towards AI data centres and related infrastructure, and the company is searching for new revenue streams beyond advertising.

Meta Subscription Prices & Features for Facebook Plus, Instagram Plus, WhatsApp Plus
Meta announced the subscriptions in an Instagram post, where head of product Naomi Gleit outlined the different "Plus" options. Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus are priced at $3.99 per month each, while WhatsApp Plus is set slightly lower at $2.99 per month, according to TechCrunch.
The new Meta paid subscription plans are being introduced globally rather than limited to specific regions. Users can keep using all three apps for free, but those who pay gain access to added tools. Following the subscription announcement, Meta’s share price rose by almost 3% in trading.
Instagram Plus gives subscribers extra control over Stories and profiles. The $3.99 plan lets users see how many people rewatched Stories, create unlimited audience lists, keep Stories visible beyond 24 hours and preview Stories anonymously. It also includes weekly spotlight boosts and animated Super Heart reactions.
Instagram Plus members can further personalise their profiles with custom app icons, personalised bio fonts and more options for pinned content. Meta has also highlighted that Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus offer access to advanced analytics, story rewatch insights, better audience reach and extra profile customisation tools for paying users.
| Service | Plan name | Monthly price | Key focus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Instagram Plus | $3.99 | Stories tools and profile customisation | |
| Facebook Plus | $3.99 | Profile customisation and social features | |
| WhatsApp Plus | $2.99 | Personalisation and messaging extras |
Meta Paid Subscription Tools on WhatsApp Plus and Across Apps
Facebook Plus mirrors many Instagram Plus functions, mainly adding extra profile styling and social options. WhatsApp Plus is more focused on personalisation for chats, including app themes, custom ringtones, premium sticker packs and additional pinned chats to help users manage busy conversations more easily.
Naomi Gleit said Meta is not stopping with consumer subscriptions. The company is developing further Meta paid subscription packages aimed at businesses, content creators and AI-powered products. These future tiers are expected to sit alongside the current Facebook Plus, Instagram Plus and WhatsApp Plus offerings.
Gleit also revealed that Meta intends to bring its subscription services together under a unified label called "Meta One." The idea is to combine different paid products into one umbrella brand, which could eventually cover personal, business and AI-related plans within the same framework.
Meta has previously experimented with paid services for its platforms. In 2023, the company introduced ad-free versions of Facebook and Instagram in Europe to comply with European Union privacy rules, giving users a choice between a no-cost ad-supported experience and a subscription without advertising.
