Instagram Launches Feature To See Friends' Liked Reels, Enhancing Social Interaction

Instagram is introducing a new feature that lets users view all the Reels their friends have liked. This update, announced by Instagram head Adam Mosseri, brings back a reimagined version of the old "activity" feed. The feature aims to foster interaction by allowing users to see which friends have liked or commented on Reels.

The update is designed to transform Instagram into a platform for both content consumption and social connection. Users can now engage with friends over shared interests in Reels. This change encourages conversations around content, enhancing the social aspect of the app.

Instagram Launches Feature To See Friends' Liked Reels

How to Access Liked Reels

To use this new feature, open the Reels Tab and look for an icon in the top right corner displaying some of your friends. Tapping on it will lead you to a dedicated feed showing Reels your friends have liked or commented on. You can also see which friends liked each Reel and start conversations directly from their profiles.

The introduction of this feature has received mixed reactions from users. While some appreciate the enhanced social connectivity, others are concerned about privacy issues. Many users feel uneasy about their liked Reels being visible to friends, fearing it might deter them from engaging with content publicly.

Feature Rollout and User Concerns

Instagram is gradually rolling out this feature in select countries, with plans to expand to more regions soon. The success of this update will depend on how users balance their desire for social interaction with privacy concerns.

Mosseri explained that the intention behind this update is not just to consume content but also to connect with friends through it. By seeing which friends have liked or left notes on a Reel, users can engage in meaningful interactions and discussions around shared interests.

This gradual rollout strategy allows Instagram to gauge user feedback and make necessary adjustments before expanding globally. As more regions gain access, Instagram will monitor user engagement and privacy concerns closely.

The new feature's impact on user behaviour remains uncertain. Whether it will encourage more public engagement or lead to increased privacy settings depends on individual preferences and comfort levels with sharing activity.
