Instagram Now Allows User to Add Up to Five Links in Their Bio

Instagram has rolled out, as Mark Zuckerberg put it, "one of the most user-requested features we've had." The feature in question allows users to add multiple links to an external site in an Instagram user's profile.

Up until now Instagram users were only able to add one link in their bio, a limitation that was very vocally expressed by most content creators. To get around this restriction, several users took to a third-party service called Linktree which allows users to use one link that redirects to a customized webpage showcasing all other links.

The new feature allows Instagram users to add up to five links in their bio. However, the first link will appear as is, whereas the others will show in a pop-up menu when clicked.

It's unclear whether users will embrace the feature with the caveat of not having all links displayed together or the restriction of having only five links when services such as Linktree were already able to do so in a much more elegant manner.

The feature is being rolled out today for all users for business and personal accounts. To access the feature, users must click the Edit Profile button on their profile page and click the Add link option beneath the "Bio" section on their Instagram apps.

Users will get options to either "Add external link" or "Add Facebook link". Do keep in mind that you can add only up to five links to your profile.

Users can also add links to competing social media platforms such as TikTok and Twitter as long as the URL complies with Meta's terms of service.

Instagram has been quite slow to adopt new features to its app. Instagram has been hesitant for a very long time to add the "Link" feature for fear that it would redirect its users to content on other apps. Instagram still doesn't allow clickable links in Posts, although it did introduce links to be added in Stories.

TikTok doesn't allow Links to be added to its platform still, and it is being reported that Instagram decided to do so to gain a competitive advantage against the company hoping to draw back social media users to its app.
