Is Instagram Down for Users Worldwide? Reports Spike on Downdetector
Instagram faced a major outage on Monday, affecting users across multiple countries, including the United States and India. Many users reported being unable to open the app, refresh feeds, view new posts, or log into their accounts. While the web version continued to work for some, the mobile app appeared largely inaccessible.
As the disruption spread, users flocked to X (formerly Twitter) to check whether others were experiencing similar issues. Many shared screenshots, complaints, and memes, while others reported being stuck on old posts or unexpectedly logged out of their accounts.

Downdetector Shows Spike in Reports
Outage-tracking platform Downdetector recorded a sharp rise in complaints during the peak of the disruption. Thousands of reports were logged globally within a short period, indicating the issue was widespread rather than limited to a specific region.
The United States saw the highest number of complaints, with reports crossing 1,200 at one stage. Around 51 percent of affected users said the Instagram app was not working, while 26 percent reported feed-loading issues and 12 percent cited server connection errors.
In India, Downdetector registered around 117 reports at peak time. About 41 percent of users blamed app-related issues, 29 percent reported feed and timeline problems, and 23 percent experienced login difficulties.
Users Turn to X as Meta Remains Silent
Several users in India reported being unable to switch between Reels, profiles, and messages, while others said their feeds stopped updating altogether. The outage quickly became a trending topic on X, where users questioned the cause of the disruption and shared humorous reactions.
Posts such as "Is Instagram down?" and "Why is Instagram down when I'm trying to see new posts?" reflected the confusion and frustration among users. Others joked about the familiar rush to X whenever Instagram experiences technical issues.
Meta has not yet commented on the cause of the outage or provided a timeline for restoring services.
