President Joe Biden Ends Re-election Bid: Internet Reacts

After announcing that he would be stepping down, Biden gave his full support to Vice President Kamala Harris, endorsing her as the nominee of the Democratic Party for the 2024 elections. Several celebrities, politicians, experts, and journalists took to X, reacting to Biden's decision.

Biden's decision to exit the race just weeks before his party's convention and months before the election is unprecedented in modern politics. The last sitting president to do so was Lyndon Johnson, whose Vietnam War policies split the Democratic Party. However, Johnson announced his decision in March 1968, eight months before the election.

Following Biden's announcement to step down, former US President Donald J. Trump wrote on Truth Social, "Crooked Joe Biden was not fit to run for President and is certainly not fit to serve - And never was! He only attained the position of President by lies, Fake News, and not leaving his Basement."

Why President Joe Biden Dropped Out of the Race?

Throughout Biden's presidency, questions about his capabilities persisted, but they intensified after his debate with Trump on June 27. His poor poll numbers, combined with a lackluster debate performance, caused panic within his party, raising doubts about his chances in the November election.

During the debate, watched by 51 million people, Biden spoke with a raspy voice and struggled to articulate his thoughts or provide a clear reason for voters to choose him over Trump. He later blamed his performance on exhaustion and a cold, urging the nation not to judge his presidency by one bad night.

However, Democratic lawmakers, unconvinced by his explanation, began urging him to withdraw from the race. This movement, initially slow, gained momentum as more party members joined in. They appealed to Biden's sense of duty, arguing that if he truly believed Trump was a threat to democracy, stepping down was the patriotic choice.

Biden's decision to leave the race marks another startling turn in what has become the most tumultuous presidential campaign in recent memory. The news also comes less than a couple of weeks after Republican nominee Donald J. Trump survived an assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. However, one thing is for certain, following the recent developments, former President Trump will undoubtedly be the favorite going into the next presidential election.
