Meta’s Threads App Has Frenzied Activity: 30 Mn. Profile Activations, 95Mn Posts Registered In 24 Hours
Meta launched its Threads app on the iOS and Android app stores and it appears the platform has resonated with the users. The social media platform essentially rivaling Twitter has garnered the patronage of over 30 million users in a single day.
The Threads app is supposed to be an appendage to the Instagram platform. However, it appears to be gaining a lot of traction for quite a few reasons. Let's look at the latest development and how they could be a credible threat to Elon Musk's Twitter.

Threads App Registers 30 Mn. Accounts, 95 Mn Posts, And More Activity
Meta launched the Threads app on Apple's iOS App Store for the iPhone and on the Google Play Store for Android devices on July 6, 2023. In less than 24 hours, the app had more than 30 million sign-ups, boasted Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
The free app has witnessed some of the best tractions for modern-day platforms, implied Meta CEO when he mentioned the Threads app has already garnered more than 95 million posts and 190 million likes.
The Threads app is still quite rudimentary and unsurprisingly, restrictive, discovered several users. There were multiple posts that indicated users can't delete their Threads account without deleting the associated Instagram account. Needless to say, this essentially means a Threads account will remain as long as the user uses Instagram.
Other posts confirmed the Threads app lacks some crucial features such as sending DM (Direct Message), a reverse-chronological following feed, or a planned integration with the decentralized ActivityPub protocol.
Will Meta Be Able To Challenge Twitter With The Threads App?
Twitter has been on a rollercoaster ride ever since Elon Musk acquired the platform last year. The micro-blogging social media network has undergone a significant transformation with multiple policy revisions and new rules.
Twitter is currently fending off a backlash from multiple segments, including businesses, users, and app developers. Hence, several alternatives to the micro-blogging social media platform have cropped up and are even gaining traction.
The Threads app too is an alternative to Twitter. However, it is not without its own set of issues, especially pertaining to user data and privacy. However, as Threads is backed by Meta, it appears to be piggybacking on Instagram. Hence, it is still early to declare that Meta has offered a worthy alternative to Twitter.
