X Was Down Globally on Saturday, Downdetector Logged 25,000+ Reports
X, the social media platform (formerly known as Twitter), owned by Elon Musk, experienced a widespread global outage on Saturday (May 24), disrupting access for users across multiple regions, including India.
During the disruption, users attempting to access the platform via the website or the iOS and Android apps were met with error messages when trying to load posts or view videos.

X Went Down Worldwide
Outage tracking service Downdetector, which monitors real-time issues by aggregating status reports from users, recorded over 25,000 complaints about the platform by 8:39 AM EDT (6:09 PM IST). According to the data, 69% of the reported issues were related to the mobile app not functioning properly. Meanwhile, 23% of users faced problems accessing the website, and 8% reported difficulties connecting to X's servers.
Although the platform's services have since been restored and appear to be functioning normally, the company has not issued an official statement detailing the root cause of the outage or the full extent of its impact. The lack of communication has left users speculating about whether the issue was due to internal technical glitches, a cyberattack, or server-related failures.
In the same development, the microblogging platform X recently disclosed that it had been instructed by the Indian government to block access to over 8,000 accounts within India. The directive comes with the threat of severe penalties, including substantial fines and possible imprisonment for X's local employees if not complied with.
These blocking orders have been issued amid ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan and extend to the accounts of international news organizations and prominent users on the platform. X's Global Government Affairs handle noted that the Indian government has not specified which posts allegedly violated local laws. In many cases, no evidence or justification was provided for the takedowns.
