Tweeples trade charge over #SelfieWithDaughter

Hashtag #SelfieWithDaughter was trending on Twitter on Monday after activist Kavita Krishnan triggered a row with her comment on the SelfieWithDaughter campaign. Comments were flying thick and fast after All India Progressive Women Association (AIPWA) secretary Krishnan tweeted that the prime minister has a record of stalking daughters.

Her tweet read: "Kavita Krishnan @kavita_krishnan Careful before sharing #SelfieWithDaughter with #LameDuckPM. He has a record of stalking daughters."

Krishnan's tweet was in response to Prime minister's radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat' last night, where Modi had urged people to share a selfie with their daughters and tag it as #SelfieWithDaughter. In his speech, the prime minister said the initiative is to celebrate the girl child and to stop female foeticide.

The idea is to promote Modi's flagship project 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao'. The sefie campaign was initiated by a sarpanch in a small village in Haryana. Modi also promised to retweet those who were using the hashtag, #SelfieWithDaughter.

However, the Twitter war got uglier with Bollywood too joining the bandwagon. Bollywood actor Alok Nath deleted his abusive comment on Krishnan after he faced ire from the Twitterati. Later, he tweeted: "Alok Nath ?@aloknath @Babu_Bhaiyaa @narendramodi @kavita_krishnan she needs to be taken to task."

Talking to IANS, Krishnan, who came under vitriolic attack, said it only shows the double standards of the Bharatiya Janata Party towards women. Krishnan said her critics have stooped to unimaginable levels to show her in a bad light.

Krishnan also criticised Prime Minister Modi's Rakhi initiative by saying: "Modi Mann Ki Baat speaks of Rakhi. For him this means protection of corrupt sisters: Sushma, Vasundhara, Smriti, Pankaja on whom he's silent."
