Twitter Launches 'Mute' Button to Block Irritating Tweets From Annoying Users

By Vivek

Earlier this month, Twitter was reportedly said to be experimenting with new features and few people already got to use them as well. It's the 'Mute' button we are talking about here, which will enable users to mute tweets of people they follow.

Twitter Launches 'Mute' Button to Block Irritating Tweets

The micro-blogging site has today officially launched the update to its Web client along with Android and iOS apps. Thus now if you are constantly bothered by irritating tweets from the ones whom you are following on Twitter, you can 'Mute' him/her instead of choosing to use the unfollow option.

Via a blogpost, Twitter wrote, "In the same way you can turn on device notifications so you never miss a tweet from your favorite users, you can now mute users you'd like to hear from less. Muting a user on Twitter means their tweets and retweets will no longer be visible in your home timeline, and you will no longer receive push or SMS notifications from that user."

Twitter explains, "To mute a user from a Tweet on your iOS or Android device or on Twitter for web tap more and then mute @username. To mute someone from their profile page, tap the gear icon on the page and choose mute @username."

The best thing about the new button is that the person you have muted will not know that he/she has been muted. However, the muted user can still reply, retweet and favorite your tweets. Moreover, you can also 'unmute' them in the future.
